 1940年,德海軍正式與英海軍發生戰事。德海軍之所以長了狼膽子與海上霸王英海軍展開戰爭,主要是因為德軍主力王牌俾斯麥級(Bismarck或Bismarch)的下水。(生產年份1936)以當時而論,俾斯麥級是世上性能,速度均達殺船機器之境的船隻。比英國主力王牌胡德級(Hood)有過之而無不及,但基於是秘密建設,英海軍並沒發現並及時摧毀。


 1941年5月18日,在呂長斯上將率領下俾斯麥號(BattleShip)及歐根親王號巡洋艦(HeavyCruiser)自波蘭格丁尼亞出發,前往大西洋執行通商破壞任務。但被英國間碟發現,英軍派遣王牌胡德級及威爾斯親王(Prince of Wales)所率領的艦隊將其摧毀。
 
 但英海軍誤將歐根親王號巡洋艦當成俾斯麥號,導至死傷枕藉,主力王牌胡德級被命中彈藥庫,便開始沈沒,最後僅存3位水手生還(全員14xx人)(像是1415人),威爾斯親王亦不好得多,中了四發俾斯麥號的380mm炮彈(大約相當於英寸13")及三發歐根親王號203mm炮彈(大約相當於英寸6.75")。而俾斯麥號僅僅中了威爾斯親王號三彈,其中命中十四號艙、令俾斯麥號燃油外泄。
 海戰後,呂長斯(艦隊司令)與林德曼(艦長)為應否追擊負傷的威爾斯親王號而展激辯,最後決定依呂長斯之見駛回法國港口聖那晒維修。由於燃料不足,俾斯麥號被逼以20節速度航行,而毫髮未傷的歐根親王號則獨力執行通商破壞任務。5月26日,俾斯麥號被皇家方舟號航空母艦的劍魚式魚雷機追上並擊中方向舵,令俾斯麥號只能在原地打轉。27日上午8時47分,阻住五世號、羅德尼號等42艘英艦趕到,並於10時39分沉沒。由於德國空軍和潛艇即將趕到,英國艦隊救起了110後即撤出該區,而U艇亦救起了數十人,可是呂長斯、林德曼和二千多名官兵隨著俾斯麥號長眠於北緯48度10分、西經16度12分的海底。

(皇牌主力!但處女航便效法了鐵達尼,是否含沙射影,自己判斷XDD)
